Ok here is the deal, made it to the track today. My fuel pressure reg is screwed up I think( or summin else is).I have a BG 2 port( 100 dollar job).I would think that small adjustments needed to be made, I had that thing almost all the way out and all the way in!!!!!!!I leaked the liquid out of the gauge as I was told it could heat and throw readings off. This thing was showing 15 psi and running and I couldnt get it below 9 if I had to( at idle). Also when I would rev the engine the pressure would fall down to 4 or 5.I had my worst run's with the new gear and I think this is the reason.I couldnt even hit my RPM's.One run I struggled to hit 5500 in first ( with a 5.14 gear)so I just shifted and came back to see what was up.2nd question:I adjusted my valves last night and after I got the engine up to temp and took the cover off there was H2O on the roof of my covers( milky white as you know).I was told this is normal this time of year as a side effect of weather.I also heard its from steam coming from a head gasket leak.Any thoughts on these would be much appreciated.Im 99% sure on the first one in that I need a new or rebuild this reg if I can, if second is a head gasket Im gonna pull my hair out!!!!!!!!

Not sure what to tell you on the fuel pressure. It sounds like you may have some dirt in the regulator allowing the pressure to creep up at low fuel useage or something. Condensation in the valve covers during cold weather is normal. The motor never gets hot enough to burn the moisture off.

I looked on the barry grant site and it was calling for this with the reg :NOTE: Be sure to use a 1/2" NPT adapter fitting on the regulator's inlet that has a minimum I.D. of .530". Fittings with a smaller I.D. on the pipe thread side will interfere with the inlet side function of the regulator. See the Fitting and Plumbing section for a complete listing of inlet fittings.I bought the reg at Mr B's and bought the fitings there as well.I dont really think the fitting is my problem( Im assuming Jay is aware of this fitting for this reg with as knowledgable as he is), but for 15 bucks Ill buy it before I buy another reg unless I can rebuild it.It supposedly has a lifetime labor warranty, but if I know how that goes after shipping and parts it would be cheaper to just buy a new one.The thing is yesterday the gauge was showing 15 psi wich is the highest the reg will adjust to, the truck was runing!I mean if it was really 15 then the needle and seat would have been overcome right?I just think it might be the reg in that I had the adjustment basically all the way out and all the way in.There was no reaction of the engine at idle when I did this.I would think that not getting fuel would make the engine not want to reach its rpm in a timely fashion sans the 5.14 gear?I was expecting to be shifting early with this gear lol.**** I reached the rpm's faster with the 3.89's!!!!!!I just think Im having fuel probs that are making the engine laydown instead of get up, I mean an engine needs fuel to run if I remember correctly LMAO.

I would think that much pressure would over run the float and flood the engine. Is the gage good and working right? RM

hey Brain i came by and spoke to you about this Saturday. I think it is a regulator problem but before you buy one check your pressure before the reg just to make sure the check valve in the pump is not stuck.my motors always got condensation in themthat would show in the valve covers to.

What would be the best way to check pressure before reg?A gauge on a block or something?I dont guess dead heading the pump will hurt?

YEA DEAD HEADING IT WANT hurt since it has preasure valve. you cant do it on the big bg pumps and stuff but its fine on yours.

What should the dead head pressure be on the pump?Im gonna get a few fittings at work to see what pressure I have before the reg and was wondering what I should look for?

i'm not sure what it should be but i would just look to see that it went up and would hold consistant i would think 15 psi or so min.

ok I assumed that if I ran the pump into the reg I would get a psi reading( didnt have the fittings at work to make up a block).I got 15 psi out of the reg at full open with engine off.Maybe a block would work better I dont know, just didnt have the means of using it.I bought a new gauge as well, just to rule it out.I bought another 2 port at local speedshop, but havent opened it yet as I wanna exhaust all ways of finding out the prob before I use it( even if it works, if it dont I know it isnt the reg for sure).I took the old reg apart and its a simple design.I cant see where anything is causing a problem in it.There is a diaphram in the top with a spring and a rod with a ball in the lower part conect to the diaphram.I hone out the 10 an fitting some and reamed the top ridge. When I took the fitting out of the reg it looked like there was some rubbing of the ball Im assumin.Put everything back together and same ol same ol.I just dont think its the reg now( maybe it is) im not barry grant or Holley so I dont know what constitutes a bad reg internally, just looked simple inside to me.

Hi Brian what kind of problem are you having with fuel pump or reg? Not real smart with this area but i've had some problem in the past as well.

You can go back to my previous post's and find out so much to rewrite LOL.This thing is racking my brain some.I mean if I had money to throw at it it wouldnt be a problem.I am trying to NOT break my wallet in figuring this out. What kinda problems did you have and did you remedy them?

Hi Brian my problem was about the same as your's except my i was trying to run stock fuel line. I did indeed end up runing 1/2 " fuel line then breaking it down to 3/8 at the reg then there was now more problem.Glad to here you got it fixed stop by & interdouce your self some time.We have a72 camaro that Anne drives we park at the back of staging i was just trying to help out.

man i know u have all that high dollar line and fittings but imthinking maybe u have a restriction somewhere just not letting enuff volume flow through but I'm not sure how to check for it.if you don't have any kinks then maybe it could be something in the line. where is your filter and what type is it. I'm at a loss here just thinking out load

I think my problem started with the inlet fitting the speed shop sold me.I seen marks on the inside of the fitting.I bought a 3 dollar fitting at the local hardware store.Had a bigger inside diamater. Its brass tho, Im assuming that is safe for gas?If not I will have to bore my original fitting out some more.I think that fitting messed up the internals of the reg.The instructions that came with the new reg( couldnt find the old ones as usual) said that a to small diamater inlet would cause internal damage. The new reg is doing good so far.Idles at 8 psi and only slightly moves when I rev it up.You remember how it was doing that saturday we met.Bouncing all over the place and unadjustable.Ill see how it does this Friday. If its still running like *** Ill unhook the trailer from the HD and run it LMAO!!!!!

glad that its fixed i hope so.never heard ot that about the fitting did it just screw to far into the regulator? brass is fine for gas.
