The day started out windy and cool for the end of March but the racing was as hot as ever. Congratulations to Jr. Dragster rookie Brittany Keeter out of Monroe, N.C. who picked up her first ever win. Nicole Phillips, Sumter S.C. picked up the runner-up spot. New for 2007 Hot Rod Trophy "HRT" saw a 400-hp Australian built 2005 Pontiac GTO take the season opener with Bob Wagoner, Kannapolis N.C., piloting the goat. Runner-up in "HRT" was no other than Danny Redman from Monroe N.C. Top Eliminator "Top" winner Chris Melton had his good luck charm, Jerry Smith, in attendance and it paid off. Sonny Walker hailing from Chester S.C. was runner-up in Top Eliminator. Modified Eliminator was ruled by two local favorites Chad Williams and Calvin Watson. Chad Williams, Pageland S.C., picked up the season opener win in "Mod" with Calvin Watson finishing in the runner-up spot. Modified Eliminator "Mod" entry Allen Furr, Concord N.C. was the winner of the gamblers race with Anne Jackson "Top" runner-up.
Congratulation to all the race winners!
Kudos to all the drivers as you adapted to the new reentry program. The 1st round losers who reentered the race ran themselves with the winners transferring into the start of 2nd round was smooth and efficient. In a program that has buy-backs/reentry the reentry format sure make good sense rewarding the round winners. All racers who are in 2nd round have won a round, 1st round or reentry race, to be in the 2nd round. Looking at some of the Margin of Victory "MOV" you would have thought this was a Bracket Final race. If the racing remains this competitive throughout the season it will surely be a nail-biter.:nailbite:
Racers don't forget you can still sign up and enter the Summit Super Series even though the season open is in the books. The SSS starts by calling Donna Harper at IHRA and pay $10 to get your SSS "X" in your car number. The SSS starts at that time and counts your first 30 hits at the tree for a performance ratio average of your on track performance. For the weekly bracket racer the IHRA Summit Super Series is the foundation of the program with a great program. If you would like to have more information about the SSS see any of the staff at the track as we have the program information pamphlets and will be more than happy to explain the program. If you would rather talk with someone from IHRA give Donna Harper a call and she can assist you with anything.
IHRA SSS Series-1 race #2 will be Saturday March 31st. It isn't to late to sign up for the point's program and the Summit Super Series.
