View Full Version : Great Payout!

I heard that some racers are in search of more money. Another track pays out only 4 places, and needs 40 cars MIN to pay out a $1,200 total purse.

With 40 cars, Pageland would end up paying out over $1,200 total in Modified. While other tracks are pro-rating the purse under the minimum, Pageland has been been paying out the purse as posted, regardless of the car count. It only took five rounds to win the race this week. I got $600 plus contingency money - for 5 rounds! Where else can you do that? I know some guys like to chase $800-$1,000/win races, but those are going to be 8 & 9 round races, where your chances of winning are really low.

At the first points race, I went 4 rounds and got $40... sure beats the $20 or nothing that you'd get most places. "Put a pencil to it"... you can make more money at Pageland, quicker and easier than anywhere else in the region. It's definitely worth the 2 hr tow for me!

Your dead on with a zero, MB! Lots of racers appear to be chasing some larger advertised purses, but as you said, their chances of winning that $ is much less than at Pageland and they spend more chasing it and those advertised purses might not get awarded.

Congratulations on your win Saturday. I knew you would make it to the Pageland Winners Circle - it sure didn't take you long. You've gotten that Duster dialed-in on us in a hurry. Don't you need to get back to Class Racing? Please get that Volare fixed.....soon and take it far away!:P

You didn't split with Buddy Plyler? If not, Mike Bradley must have fallen flat on his back. He may have never seen a pair of finalist's not split before?

Maybe Mike will post the Final Round Run results with the Race Results so we
can all see what it's gonna take to beat you. I know, cut a good i.e. GREAT light and run your number, right?:banghead:

>> chasing some larger advertised purses

Yeah, "advertised" is the key word. Maybe Pageland just needs to change it's advertising! Whattaya think, Mike? If there are 60 cars in Footbrake, pay $1,000/win? 100 cars = $2,000/win? (Leave the other numbers the same). While other tracks pay 80% if there is less than 40 cars, Pageland pays out roughly 100%, even at 32 cars! Don't know what the guys want... I'd run Pageland every week if I could!

>> Please get that Volare fixed.....soon and take it far away!

Mmmm... actually, with the WFC being rescheduled, looks like I'll be at point race #3... <grin>

>> You didn't split with Buddy Plyler? If not, Mike Bradley must have fallen flat on his back. He may have never seen a pair of finalist's not split before?

Racing Buddy is like racing Chris Plott, and I told him so. It was an honor just to get to race him. I drove the starting line horrible this weekend... I actually assumed that he was going to win! I told him, "You earned every dime this weekend." If he would've won, I would have gladly taken my $200 + contingency and smiled all the way home. The purse is structured fairly. No need to split, in my opinion.

>> so we can all see what it's gonna take to beat you. I know, cut a good i.e. GREAT light and run your number, right?

LOL... yeah, I don't think you'd be too concerned with my .050-.060 package! BLEAGH! Just because you keep saying nice things doesn't mean I'm going to start taking you for granted. I haven't been at Pageland very long yet, but you strike me as one of the sharks to look out for! :biggrin2:

Hey Nova - good run. Sorry I didn't get a chance to get introduced. Will try to look you up next time. Your car looked really sharp. What's your name?

Yeah, MB - those advertised purses seem pretty good until you get there without enough cars to meet minimum and then only have a shot at 80%
of the pot. Hopefully, folks will "See the Light".

I agree, Pagelands new Payout Structure is better suited for folks to not have to split. It's just so common to split that most may not see it thay way.

Too bad about the WFC being postponed. Did they consider moving the event to another track? Hope all those that entered can make it in July.
That will be one heck of a footbrake race - Good Luck!

Yea, I can't complain bout the way its structured. I won one round the other saturday and i got nearly my whole buy back back. I think it was $25 to buy back or somethin and i won $20 for a round, were as last year it would have taken two rounds to get $20; 2nd and 3rd instead of juss 2nd.

Nobody's going to get crazy rich doing this, but I like driving 2 hrs to Pageland knowing that I'm not going to spend a boatload of money, and I've got a really good chance at paying for most, if not all, of my trip. I've run at the "$1,000/win" places plenty, but your chances of actually winning an 8 or 9-round race are very slim. There's no doubt that we all go racing with the intention of winning, but at some point, realism and statistics take over. ;)

I was in something like 9 final rounds last year, and made really good money... and broke even. I won't make $13K/yr running at Pageland, but I won't *spend* $13K, either. It's a twisted version of an old adage, which *should* read, "You pay for what you get." (Dave Matthews)

I'm really enjoying the place and the people, and it's great return on investment. Hope to get a chance to meet some more folks and chat.

Hope the weather cooperates this weekend!

Come on 383, what's this about not being there this weekend?
Hope you can work things out and make the race!

Yeah MB, it seems real simple to me. I suspect some others will
eventually figure it out, too. Are you bringing Fern with you this weekend?
Some of the WFC guys should come down to Pageland this weekend.
Saw on DRR where Angela Macy was talking about all the options for everyone
this weekend. Hope some new faces make it down. See you Saturday!

It was my rookie year in Heavy Eliminator (NHRA Div. 1's footbrake class), and I skipped my senior prom to go racing. Instead of spending $90 on a tux, I went to the semis for the first time and won $90. LOL

Missed my brother's wedding to win the Bracket Finals in '94. :whoops: Ah, well. He's divorced. I still have the Wally. :eyeroll:

Have fun this weekend, and be safe!

Ryan enjoy the prom and be safe in the process. Hey, why not let pop come run the Nova?:propeller: I'm sure he'd take good care of her for you.

Hope to see you at the track real soon.

Ryan final round killer match-up with Buddy "Big Show" Plyler taking on defending 2006 IHRA World champion Myron Piatek in the factory backed Mopar. Myron had lost 1st round at Rockingham Saturday and Michael had invited him to Pageland Dragway. I don't have the printout here with me this morning but I think Buddy won the race on the starting line with a slightly better bulb as they both ran dead-on on the top end. I'll post the stats tonight after our King Quad ATV drag race today if it isn't to late or tomorrow. This goes to show Team Pageland has some of the best racers anywhere in the country.

Just wanted to say "Thanks!" for making me feel welcome.
Michael Beard (staginglt) invited me, pointing out that I wouldn't be doing much else that weekend anyway after losing 1st round at Rockingham. Met some nice people, track hooked great with some of the most consistent 60 foot times I've ever had and it would have been fun even if I hadn't made it to the final round because I haven't been able to do much bracket racing since getting on the IHRA circuit. Good, close competition, including a semi-final win margin of only .0001, and congratulations again to Mr. Plyler for winning overall and, I think, taking over the points lead.

Yeah, THANKS Myron! :banghead: Can't take you anywhere! LOL See if I take out Bertozzi for you this year! :eyeroll:

If you have to lose to somebody, you couldn't do better than Buddy. Win or lose, he's always a gentleman, and one tough competitor. Cooks a mean porkchop, too!
