A group of local nostalgic drag racers have started a new club their calling "Carolina Gassers". I believe to be eligible for the club your vehicle must be 1964 or older. Some of the Carolina Gassers will running this Friday night preparing for Saturday, June 2nd. just exactly who are the carolina gassers? The only names i see is this jim guy. and i noticed you are advertising this race on your home page using 2 CLASSIC GASSERS cars, which i doubt will be there. you also mention having a "blown 41 big block chevy" in a willis there. are you sure about this? if youre talking about the cars you have pictured there im willing to bet they wont be there unless its a classic gassers race. i had heard earlier that they would be there this year but nothing else has been said about it untill i see this about a new group....and classic gassers seem to still be together going strong so im a bit confused here. please enlighten me on whats going on.

Jimmie Guillen is putting together a group of local racers who want to be part of a nostalgic series. Many of the people who have expressed an interest in being a part of this club is and will continue to be members of the "Classic Gassers" from my understanding. This is just a group of guys who would like to do some nostalgic events on a more local level with gas being over $3 a gallon. Jimmie provided me with the list of racers and pictures to use for promotional purposes. I can't say for 100% that each and ever new club member will be here June 2nd. It's like any other club you never know who will be attending a particular event until the day of. Just like this past Saturday we had 9 Top 8 Doorslammers for the event but I bet they have 20 or more club members. Listed below is the initial list of club members.

1936 Fiat Topolino SBC-Jimmie Guillen
1936 Fiat Topolino SBC-Warren Horne
1940 Chevrolet Coupe BBC-Tommy Lomley
1941 Plymouth Blown Hemi-Gerald Baker
1941 Willys Blown BBC-Jerry Curtis
1948 Anglia BBC-Mac Pressley
1951 Willys Blown BBC-Steve Fountain
1952 Henry J Blown SBC-Justus Daniels
1957 English Ford SBF-Jim Gullien

*Tentative*
1955 Chevrolet SBC-Tony Brown
1958 Corvette SBC-Kenny Floyd
1962 Chevrolet BBC-Joe Smith

Good stuff. Beaver Springs has had great success with nostalgia meets. Be nice to see the Gassers and the Gearjammers together... make part of a nice smorgasbord show!

This is Steve Fountain and I am the President of Classic Gassers. I as well as several other of our members were asked if we would run at JP and we agreed to do so. It don't matter what it is called ie; Carolina Gassers,Classic Gassers, ect. I just like seeing and racing Old Nostalgic cars. I was asked by Jimmy Guillen to step in and help with this race and I told him I would. I like running at JP. Nice track and great people.

No, this is not a Classic Gasser event but that don't matter. We as racers have to make decision on where to race every weekend and sometimes we race with other groups. That does not mean that we are not committed to our own Club. I for one would love to see the Classic Gassers and the GearJammers get together and rock the house at any track because it would be a show to remember. Maybe this might happen soon. Maybe at JP, How about it Mike? I bet there is several other racers that would love to see that happen.

Anyway, Mike Bradley you have a great track and I will be looking forward to running at it several times this year.

From the owners and staff thanks for the kind words Steve. I would entertain the thoughts of a Gasser and Gear Jammer companion event. Maybe the September 29th date would be better. That would give everyone more time to promote the upcoming event. Maybe have a match race between two period correct 409, 4-speed Chevrolet's as well.

I just wanted to let you know that I hurt the ole Willys at Shadyside Monday. Split the block from one head to the other. Won't be able to make the race this weekend . Got several people looking for a block for me. Will keep informed as of progress of repairs. Sorry, was looking forward to this race.
