View Full Version : Trying to sort out my Nova, it keeps going left

Well I got my Nova going awhile ago and last week I got Bob to fix the carb which was a issue since I got it running but he couldn't get to me. The motor runs fine now. Best ET so far was at Mooresville where it ran a couple 5.39s with 1.18 sixty ft times which meets my expectations in a 2900 lb Nova. I do have a problem that is killing me though, when it launches it goes left. Drives fine when the wheels come down but while they are in the air it goes left and at times it goes left bad! I've tried alot of stuff and the really goofy thing is nothing has any effect on it. I've checked and rechecked everything many times but nothing has had even a slight effect on it. Going to try swapping the tires side to side and test again Thursday at SS. The thought now is the tires are not right for a car this heavy with this much HP. It may have broken down the side walls. If that is so then that would explain why nothing on adjusting the chassis works. Not many people running a car this heavy trying to go this fast so resources to compare notes with are limited. A couple guys with somewhat similair combos tell me they have to run extra stiff sidewall tires which mine aren't. Anyone with a car this heavy running this fast that has any suggestions I'm all ears. The chassis is rigid, the car drives great once the wheels come down, everything is square, straight and level, tires are dead on 104.5 dia, wheelie bars are new and straight but they are also spring loaded 65 inch long units, anti roll is neutral, and the 4 link bars are 1 3/8 and 1 1/2 dia twenty inch long bars. We'll see how the tire swap goes. JM

Well the car worked well today. Ran straight and was consistant and I was finally able to race with it. Made some rounds, won a little money, eat some chicken strips and had a long but safe ride home. Thanks to all who offered advice while I sorted the thing out. The track was good even in the heat. Nice yakking with Mike and all the folks I hadn't seen in awhile. I really like the summer hours too. Hot but not unbearable and the program moved along real well. Thanks for a good track and a nice Sat at the races. JM

Nice to see and speak to you also. I didn't think Ann was anything but real good and was happy to watch her get another win. Darn long ride home but having a good day and seeing everyone at J/P again made it worth the ride. Best wishes and see you next time. JM

Hey Joe! Congratulations on your Semi finish Saturday! That Nova was hooked up and gone. I came by your pit to say Hi and check out your car
but you must have been out gettin some chicken strips or seeing old friends.
The Nova sure looks great and looks like you've about got it dialed in and the
kinks worked out. Keep up the good work!
